Of Rock Festivals and Number Skills: sample Functional Maths scenario

We thought we’d share some sample Functional Maths questions, for any teachers/classes getting to grips with Functional.   This two-page spread is taken from our Foundation Student Book, which published last month, and all the questions are set in the context of the Glastonbury Festival.  Who said Maths can’t occasionally be rock ‘n’ roll? 

The questions test basic number skills and data interpretation.   Try it on your Foundation-level class, and see how they get on?   Just in case you’re new to the world of Functional Maths, and still confused by it, here’s a quick reminder…

From 2010 Functional Maths will be appearing in two places: (i) there will be Functional questions within GCSE papers (30-40% in Foundation papers, 20-30% in Higher papers), and (ii) there will be a new standalone Functional Maths qualification.   We’ve blogged before about Functional, and you’ll find all the detail you need on these pages of our blogsite.
